Help & FAQ — private beta
Thank you for being part of the first two-week test of Mulch!! So far, it's just been me and the robots 🤖, and we're happy to have you join us! This page has everything you need to get started, the one big thing that could trip you up first, and answers to what you'll probably wonder along the way.
This model is a proof of concept, not a finished product. The goal is to find out whether this is worth building out further and offering paid subscriptions, or pivot to something else. Part of what I'm testing here is the actual usage costs, and depending on how this goes, I may need to charge at least a small fee to continue using the app after this initial test period.
The beta runs through August 16, but real-time help is only available through August 7. After that, I'm on a camping trip with no screens through the 16th. Log in and poke around before Aug 7 so there's time to sort out anything that comes up.
Your login link (emailed to you) expires 7 days after it's sent. If it's gone stale, reach out directly.
The short version, if you'd rather click around than read.
Settings ⚙ → Clinician Profile — your training/orientation, license type, and timezone. This shapes how notes and reflections read.
Add them in Learning Edges (from Clinician Profile or the Growth Reflections sidebar): one deliberate edge you carry into every session, and any others you want to hold. Or click the green Growth Reflections button and talk it through with Mulch to find one.
Pick Therapy/Coaching/Supervision Note to document a session, or Reflect on This Session if you'd rather begin with the deliberate-practice side or skip the note entirely.
The Note ▾ menu covers Create Progress Note, Create Process Note, and Full Review & Rewrite. Deliberate Practice Reflection is its own button, right above it.
See "Read this part" below — this is the one thing worth understanding early.

Starting something new erases what's on screen
Clicking any "Start New" option, or "Clear Conversation," permanently wipes the conversation you were just in — notes, drafts, everything. There's no undo, and nothing is recoverable after that point.
Before you start something new: copy any note you want to keep into your EHR, and make sure your deliberate-practice reflection has actually saved (the button will say "Save Reflection" while it's still open — it auto-saves when the conversation reaches a natural stopping point, or you can click it yourself anytime to save and end early).
What's not a problem: closing the browser tab, refreshing the page, or your session timing out. None of those clear anything — log back in and it's exactly where you left it. It's only the explicit "start new" / "clear conversation" actions that erase.
This is deliberate, not a bug — it's the privacy design of the whole app. A note conversation is kept on Mulch's server only while it's your current one, which is why you can come back to it. Once you start a new one or clear it, it's permanently deleted. What persists long-term is short AI-written summaries of your deliberate-practice and growth reflections, your Growth Reflections conversations themselves, and your session self-reports: when you start a new note, the previous conversation is boiled down to what you said about your own side of the session, with anything identifying the client removed. You'll find them in Reflection History to review, edit, or delete. Clearing a conversation skips this step.
Easy to mix up at first — they're two different zoom levels on the same idea.
Lives inside a note conversation (or a "Reflect on This Session" conversation). Checks in on how your deliberate edge showed up today, and whether the session touched one of your held edges. Saves as a short summary the moment it wraps up, and you can attach it to the edge it was about.
Its own separate space, reachable from the green sidebar button. Looks across everything you've saved so far to talk through patterns, and is where you revisit or evolve your learning objective as it shifts.
Click a question to expand it.
A progress note (DAP or SOAP) is the structured, clinical-language note meant for the chart — insurance-ready, written in third person. A process note is looser and unstructured: it preserves your own words and phrasing from the conversation, meant to capture impressions and detail that don't belong in the formal chart note. Both come from the same conversation — no need to redo anything to generate a different note.
Yes, always — initials or general descriptions only, never real names, birthdates, or other identifying details. This isn't optional or beta-specific; Mulch isn't built to hold real client identifying information, full stop.
Edit it directly, or ask for a rewrite in plain language ("that intervention should be listed as reflective listening, not paraphrasing"). For a closer look, use Full Review & Rewrite in the Note ▾ menu — it checks the note against everything you said and flags anything off before you copy it anywhere.
Yes — the microphone icon next to the message box works in both the note area and Growth Reflections. Talk normally; there's no special phrasing required.
Yes, one at a time — just make sure you've copied out anything you need and your reflection has saved, then start the next one. Starting a new note conversation replaces whatever note conversation was active, but your saved Growth Reflections history isn't touched by this.
Use the Support button in the sidebar once you're logged in elsewhere, or reach out directly — invite links are one-time and expire after 7 days, but a new one is quick to generate.
Nothing happens automatically or without warning. If the beta doesn't continue in its current form, you'll hear directly about what happens to your saved reflection history before anything changes.
The Support button in the sidebar, anytime — it goes straight to us. If it's about something specific Mulch said or did, you can paste the relevant part of the conversation right into that form to help track it down faster.
